Dinosaur Illustration Contest

RALEIGH—The Museum is proud to announce its first ever Dinosaur Illustration Contest!

In conjunction with the Museum's current Dinosaurs exhibit, kids can showcase their artistic ability and interest in dinosaurs with a chance to win a prize and have their work displayed in the Museum’s Nature Art Gallery.

Contest Guidelines:

Kids should illustrate their best and most realistic version of a dinosaur in its natural surroundings. Illustrations will be judged based on artistic ability and accuracy — as a Museum of Natural Sciences, we encourage kids to use resources accessible to them to make their illustration as realistic as possible.

Illustrations will be accepted from January 1–31, 2008. Entries can be submitted in person or by mail to: The Museum Store, 11 W. Jones St., Raleigh, NC 27601.  Entry Form

Two winners (1st place and 1st runner-up) from each of the following age groups will receive a prize and have their illustration displayed in the Nature Art Gallery located in the Museum Store. Age groups are: Kindergarten and under, Grades 1–3, Grades 4–6.

Winners will be decided on February 2, Groundhog’s Day, and notified the following week. Judges include paleoartist Mark Hallett, Nature Art Gallery manager Karen Bethune and Museum paleontologist Vince Schneider.

Please mark your calendar for two special presentations by visiting paleoartist Mark Hallet:

  • First Friday, February 1, 6:00 p.m., Dinosaurs: An Artist's View, Multimedia Presentation.
  • Saturday, February 2, 1:00 p.m., Camarasaurus: Restoring the Head of a Sauropod Dinosaur,  Sculpture Demonstration.
