NC Shell Show returns to Museum in September August 4, 2006 What is a shell show? For the exhibitors, the show is actually a competition, as they vie for ribbons and trophies in various scientific and arts and crafts categories. Visitors to the show will find a collection of eye-catching and educational exhibits focusing on all aspects of seashells and shelling, this year featuring shells from many areas of the world, especially North Carolina, Florida and the East Coast. The arts and crafts division will contain exhibits featuring shell photography, crafts using actual shells, and crafts depicting shells. Additionally, dealers will be selling shells and shell-related items, and children can take away boxes of give-away shells. Visitors to the show can even become involved in the judging of the exhibits by voting for their favorite exhibit. Ballots will be available at the club tables near the entrance. Shell club members will be manning tables just inside the exhibit room and wandering around inside to answer any questions you might have. You can also try to stump the experts, as visitors are invited to bring a shell along for identification. The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, in downtown Raleigh, documents and interprets the natural history of the state of North Carolina through exhibits, research, collections, publications, and educational programming. Hours: Mon.-Sat., 9 am to 5 pm, and Sun., noon to 5 pm. Admission is free. Visit the Museum on the Web at naturalsciences.org. The Museum is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, William G. Ross Jr., Secretary.
