Anole photo by Gabby SalazarRALEIGH – Greensboro native Gabby Salazar won the prestigious Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year award in 2004. At 18, Gabby now travels the world enhancing her talent and helping others to learn the art of photography. Gabby will visit the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences July 8-9 to discuss her experiences as a young photographer and to lead a youth photography workshop at the Museum's outdoor educational facility, Prairie Ridge.

The Museum is seeking aspiring young nature photographers, ages 12-16, to join us for this once in a lifetime opportunity to explore the techniques and challenges of outdoor photography from one of the most accomplished young photographers of their generation. This free workshop will be held on Saturday, July 9 from 8:00-10:00 a.m. Only 12 spots are open and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information and to sign up for the workshop, contact Jessica Hegele at 919-733-7450 ext 262, or Jonathan Pishney at 919-733-7450 ext 304.

Assisting with the workshop will be Gabby's father and avid photographer Paul Salazar, along with Mike Dunn, the Museum's coordinator of teacher education and a photographer whose work is often featured in the Naturalist. This exciting field experience will help photographers at any level become more advanced.

In addition to the workshop, Gabby will make a presentation highlighting her photography at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 8 in the Museum auditorium. Her award-winning photograph is one of 90 images on display in the 2004 Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit opening July 1 at the Museum. The exhibit is free to the public and runs through September 18, 2005.
