for art: (RALEIGH)—The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is now selecting artists for the year 2004 and beyond. The Museum’s mission to educate and nourish an appreciation for the natural world is realized in many ways. The Nature Art Gallery, an intimate space located within the Museum Store, is just one effort to enhance the public’s understanding of the natural world. The Nature Art Gallery features the work of nature artists working in all mediums. Six exhibitions are planned for each calendar year. All exhibited art is for sale. Eligibility: Works by any visual artist or group of artists with a focus on nature. Specifications: Artwork can be in any medium. Previous exhibitions have included works in oils, pastels, watercolors, pen and ink, fabric, sculpture and photography. All work selected must be finished and ready for hanging or presentation (three-dimensional work). Gallery dimensions: Wall space dimensions may limit the size of the works selected. The gallery is 850 square feet with total wall space of 484 square feet. The room consists of one long 39 ’ wall and two shorter walls of 12 ½’ and 14’ that form a small alcove at one end. Floor to ceiling height is 7’4”. Submission deadline: Samples of work may be submitted by slides only. All submissions must be received by 5 p.m., Saturday, May 31, 2003. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 4:45 p.m.; and the first Friday of each month until 7 p.m. Admission is free. The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, in downtown Raleigh, documents and interprets the natural history of the state of North Carolina through exhibits, research, collections, publications, and educational programming.
