Nature Art Gallery features Robert Binks’ acrylics (RALEIGH)—The acrylic paintings of Burlington artist Robert Binks are featured in the Nature Art Gallery at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences through Sunday, October 20. Born and reared in St. Louis, Mo., Binks spent much of his youth hunting and fishing, experiences that fostered his interest in wildlife art. Using observation skills developed over a lifetime in the outdoors, Binks paints wildlife--turkeys, deer, foxes and waterfowl--with lifelike detail to their color, musculature and placement within the natural environment. “The world has been changing and the people who live in it are losing touch rapidly with the world of nature,” said Binks. “It’s my goal to preserve the wildlife and its natural habitat for future generations through my art.” Binks moved to North Carolina in 1972 and began producing works for national and international competitions as well as corporate commissions. He has exhibited at the Easton Waterfowl Festival, Md.; the Hickory Museum of Art, N.C.; the National Wildlife Art Show, Mo.; the Chestertown Wildlife Arts Festival, Md.; and the Friends of the National Zoo Show, Washington, D.C. Binks has produced commissioned works for Royal Insurance of Charlotte, N.C., CableVision of Central Florida and Red Lobster Restaurants, Inc. He has been heavily involved in development of wildlife stamps in Florida and South Carolina. His work also is part of permanent collections at the Florida Museum of Natural History and the South Carolina Museum of Natural History. The Nature Art Gallery, inside the Museum Store, hosts new exhibitions by Southern artists every six weeks. All exhibited art is for sale. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 4:45 p.m.; and the first Friday of each month until 7 p.m. Admission is free.
