NC Hummers

Broad-billed hummingbird (Cynanthus latirostris)

This is a bird of desert canyons in southeast Arizona and southwest New Mexico, and Mexico. The immature male pictured here was discovered at a feeder in New Bern October 7 2001 but left before it could be banded.

Note the red base to the decurved bill. This young male also shows some blue feathers in the gorget along with lots of green on the lower throat, breast, and flanks.
