Monarch Watch Program

Each fall monarchs migrate through our state on their way to overwintering sites in the mountains of central Mexico. monarchJoin hundreds of students across the country who monitor the monarchs' movements through Monarch Watch. This national science program sponsors the tagging of monarch butterflies to learn more about their migration pathways.

The migration period is usually from late August through early November. Tagging is easy, does not harm the butterfly, and is an excellent student project which integrates curriculum areas such as science, math, and social studies.
