Q & A

What is the time difference in Belize? Seraphina, 7th grade, Harnett County

There is a two hour time difference this time of year because Belize does not particpate in Daylight Savings time. When it is 3 pm in North Carolina, it is 1 pm in Belize.

Is eco-tourism popular in Belize? Hana, 7th grade, Wake County

The local economy seems to thrive on eco-tourism. Although we find that the eco-tourists are primarily international. Few Belizeans can afford to travel even though the country is only the size of New Hampshire. There are many different standards for eco-tourism. All guides must be licensed with the government. Our guide, Nathan, is very selective about designing adventures with minimal human impact. We are doing our best to take only pictures and leave only footprints.

Did you see any animals in the cave? If so, can you describe them? Andrew, 5th grade, Wake County

We saw a few Bloodsucking Cone-noses, and we strongly encourage you to find a picture of it on the Internet! It is both creepy and cool when you are in a dark cave. We also saw bats and Tailless Whipped Scorpions. We also found fungus nets that look like small nine-inch-long threads of pearly beads.
