Science Cafe RaleighScience Café is an event where, for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, anyone can participate in topical discussions with leaders in the fields of science and technology. Hosted by local Sigma Xi chapters and the Museum, these monthly talks are located in coffee shops, bars and restaurants around Raleigh and promote discussion of science in an informal community setting.

Monster Storms – Hurricanes in North Carolina

This is the time of year when hurricanes can often become front page news. Join us to learn the basics of why hurricanes are unique types of storms and how our state can be affected by their destructive forces.

About the Speakers
hurricaneDr. Ryan Boyles is the State Climatologist and Director of the State Climate Office at NC State University. The State Climate Office is a public service center with a mission to provide weather and climate research, extension and education services for North Carolina. Boyles is a native of Durham with undergraduate and graduate degrees from NC State University.

Dr. Anantha Aiyyer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Marine, Earth, Atmospheric Sciences at North Carolina State University.  Dr Aiyyer’s research focus is in tropical meteorology, atmospheric dynamics and climate variability.
